The Volvo V60 plug-in hybrid is one of the most successful hybrid vehicles in Europe and recorded great sales in the year 2013. Broadening the vehicle’s appeal, Volvo has unveiled the V60 plug-in hybrid in Volvo’s R-Design specification. The company has started taking bookings for the R-Design model with deliveries expected to begin from August this year. As far as the pricing goes, the Volvo V60 D6 AWD R-Design Lux Nav is available from £51,675, excluding the plug-in hybrid grant of £5000. The exterior as well as the interior of the vehicle is quite unique. The exterior features R-Design grille and front bumper, 18-inch Ixion wheels and a rear diffuser. The interior gets a full R-Design theme that includes standard sports seats with black nubuck textile and perforated leather, sports pedals,, charcoal headlining and sports floor mats. The standard list of features also adds Volvo On Call. Powering the car is world’s first diesel plug-in hybrid system that comprises of a 2.4 liter, 5-cylinder, turbodiesel engine and an electric motor. The turbo diesel engine delivers 215 hp and peak torque of 440 Nm to the front wheels, while the rear wheels are driven by the 70 hp, 200 Nm electric motor. Power to the electric motor is supplied by an 11.2 kWh lithium-ion battery pack. The V60 plug-in hybrid emits just 48 g/km of CO2 and has a fuel consumption rated at 155.2 miles to a gallon. The car features three drive modes that can be easily switched to using the available buttons. The modes are Pure, Hybrid and Power. On pure electric mode, the car can cover up to 31 miles whereas the Power mode uses the engine and motor at the same to deliver unmatched performance.
