After a single season at Newtown throughout which he represented Sydney Colts in opposition to the touring British, Raper moved to the Dragons and instantly stood aside even in that crew of stars. In 1959 Raper represented New South Wales, Australia in opposition to New Zealand, toured with the Kangaroos and starred as St George gained the premiership undefeated.
Raper made three Kangaroo excursions and was captain of Australia’s 1968 victorious World Cup crew.
