Peugeot 308 is a complete hatchback in all senses but Peugeot thought of experimenting with it a little bit and brought the Peugeot 308 R Concept. The name sounds pretty simple but in reality it is a truly radical, ultra sporty version of the 308.
Compared to the standard 308, the 308 R Concept features a reworked body with a red + black, two tone treatment. The concept hatch has been given a low posture and a wider track to give it that sporty feel. Although the 308 R concept is based on the 308, the only components it retains from the latter are the roof and tailgate. The rest of the body components including the doors, front wings, the body sides and sills, bonnet and bumpers are all made from carbon fibre.
The front of the vehicle is aggressive looking thanks to those three air intakes present in the lower half. The central intake consists of attractive bluish horizontal bars while the side ones feature carbon mesh. Then there is the full LED headlamps, carbon fibre exterior mirrors incorporating unique LED design direction indicators, a 26 mm lowered posture, 19 inch bespoke wheels with a signature ‘R’ logo in red on one of the spokes, a matt black finish spoiler at the rear and more. At the rear it retains the 308 rear lights featuring LEDs, two protruding symmetrical exhaust tailpipes and red signature on the lamps, interior of tailpipes and on the spoiler.
The car is powered by a Peugeot Sport-developed drive train. Under the hood of the car is a compact and efficient petrol engine, the same that powers the recently introduced Peugeot RCZ R Sports Coupé. It is a 1.6 liter THP 270 petrol unit that produces 270 hp at 6000 rpm and peak torque of 330 Nm available between 1900 to 5500 rpm. Power is deployed to the front wheels via a six speed manual gearbox.
Since the car has to take care of all that power, the braking system used in the same equips Alcon discs. The front set is 32mm thick and 380 mm in diameter while the rear gets 22mm thick and 330 mm in diameter discs. The system makes use of aluminium hubs consisting of four piston calipers. The 19 inch alloy wheels are wrapped in 235/35 R19 tires.
