In 2007, Nissan launched the Qashqai SUV in the European market and it turned out to be a massive hit. Nearly 6 years after, today, Nissan has launched the all new Qashqai which is all set to take on its rivals. The 2007 Qashqai was a highly successful car in Britain with sales surpassing the 2 million mark and lead to a whole new breed of of small mid-sized family vehicles. The new Qashqai not only has to live up to its’ predecessor’s name but also as to compete with the variety of compact SUVs out there. So what is new about the Qashqai? Going by Nissan’s word, the new Qashqai promises space and comfort plus quality and technology good enough to rival Audi. The car sits on the same Common Module Family platform that also underpins the X-Trail. The same platform is likely to be used by Renault as well, for the new Espace and all future Infiniti models. The styling of the car is somewhat similar to what we have seen on the X-Trail, but features a pointed front end with Nissan family LED lamps. The clamshell- style bonnet, powerful curves, clean lines and intricate details are some of the other evident features. Proportion wise the second-generation model is 20mm wider, 49mm longer and 15mm lower than the current car. Talking about the high tech features of the new Qashqai, it gets Nissan’s Safety Shield package including Front Collision Avoidance, Driver Attention Support, Traffic Sign Recognition, Lane Departure Warning, Blind Spot Warning, Moving Object Detection and High Beam Assist. In addition you also get Chassis Control system, Full LED headlamps which consume 50 per cent of the power of previous Xenon lamps, Intelligent Parking Assist, New NissanConnect with smartphone app integration and Around View Monitor.
The engine line-up comprises of four engines (all featuring start/stop technology): two petrol and two diesel, with the option of two- or four-wheel-drive. Transmission options include both manual and an all-new Xtronic automatic transmissions. The engine options are as follows:

- 1.2-litre DIG-T (petrol) – an advanced turbocharged engine delivering 115PS (85kW) and 190Nm of torque. It emits 129g/km of CO2 and has a fuel consumption figure of 50.4mpg.
- 1.6-litre DIG-T (petrol) – this one also features advanced turbocharging technology and puts out 150 PS and 240 Nm of torque. Despite being the most powerful of the lineup, its consumes 50.4mpg on the EU combined cycle while emitting 132g/km of CO2.
- 1.5 litre dCi (diesel) – this engine is shared with Nissan’s Alliance Partner Renault but is different from the one already on offer. This one is more cleaner, smoother, more efficient and more refined. It puts out 110 PS and 20 Nm more torque than the outgoing engine. Emission figure stands at 99g/km of CO2, while Fuel consumption is 74.3mpg.
- 1.6 litre dCi (diesel) – this top of the range diesel engine is offered with the option of two and four-wheel-drive and delivers 130 PS. In two-wheel-drive form it emits 115g/km and consumes 64.2mpg, while the four-wheel-drive manual version enjoys figures of 129g/km and 57.6mpg,
