The 2014 Geneva Motor Show is going to be extremely important for McLaren as it plans to unveil the all new McLaren 650S at the show. This latest supercar is supremely capable and and joins the exotic McLaren range which comprises of the 12C and the P1. Evidently the car is not new from scratch but learns from both the 12C and P1 supercars. Even when it comes to styling it closely resembles the P1 from the front while the side and rear seems influenced by the 12C. The McLaren 650S will be available in both coupe and Spider versions. The Spider model features a retractable folding hard top. The front bumper of the the car is radical looking and sits below the new headlamps that feature LEDs. There is a more integrated front splitter designed to offer even more downforce, hence improving the steering feel and agility levels compared to other McLaren models. The front end grip is further increased by the door blades situated behind the front wheels which direct the air coming from the front splitter. In terms of aerodynamics the 650S boasts the coefficient of drag as the 12C but offers 24 percent increased downforce at 150 mph. Some of the noteworthy external highlights of the 650S include dihedral doors, new design 5-spoke lightweight forged ‘650S’ alloy wheel, bespoke ‘MC1’ branded Pirelli P Zero Corsa tyres suitable for both normal roads and track.
As far as the technologies are concerned, the 650S takes the active aerodynamics of the 12C and P1 to a whole new level. McLaren has improved the Airbrake, which first appeared in the 12C, for the 650S and the system now offers even increased levels of stability. The Airbrake now deploys whenever the car senses there is need of extra downforce . The 650S also comes with an enhanced version of the ProActive Chassis Control (PCC) suspension system. It can used in three different modes: Normal / Sport / Track, giving more freedom to the driver when it comes to ride and handling. These settings have been recalibrated by McLaren to deliver higher engagement for the driver.
