Each year at the Consumer Electronics Show, car majors show off their innovative technologies aimed at making cars safer for the future. This year at the CES Kia Motors America is showcasing a collection of new and future technologies aimed at making driving experience safer, more dynamic and efficient in the near future. First up is the Kia KND-7 concept vehicle which is a four door coupe that makes is North American debut at the 2014 Consumer Electronics Show. The car was designed under the direction of President and Chief Design Officer, Peter Schreyer at the Kia studio in Seoul. Most interestingly the vehicle is just four meters long, features an ‘access-all-areas’ interior concept and has rearward-opening doors. Styling wise the car is sleek and compact and is influenced by the 2007 Kia Kee 2 + 2 concept. It is powered by a 1.6 liter GDI (gasoline direct injection) turbocharged engine that produces 201 hp at peak. Next up is the User-centered Driver Concept (UCD), a system that uses a widescreen, 18-inch Head-Up Display (HUD) displaying vital information such as speed, navigation and traffic information. In addition, there is a 12.3-inch TFT-LCD cluster that uses eye tracking technology and presents a 3D view of all the vehicle related information. The same system is also equipped with a hand-gesture controller, advanced infrared light and camera sensors, and a cordless mobile device wireless charging system. Coming to Infotainment, Kia is also showcasing the eye-catching In-vehicle Infotainment Concept (IVI) at CES. The system features a 20 inch multi touch center console display for displaying information. The same info is synced through the driver’s smartphone or a plug-in tablet, allowing the passengers/driver to access plenty of services including social networking. It also comes with “Smart Radio” that enables users to personalize playlists as per mood or based on five templates for different driving environments. The system is also a part of yet-to-arrive vehicle-to-vehicle and vehicle-to-infrastructure communication infrastructure.
