Chevrolet today unveiled the latest member of the Corvette family, the 2015 Chevrolet Corvette Z06 Convertible which happens to be the first Z06 Convertible since 1963. Also, the 2015 Z06 Convertible is the most power packed convertible model ever produced by Chevrolet. With no surprise, the Convertible borrows a number of components from the Coupe model, including the powertrain, equipment options, driver technologies and same chassis tuning . However, since it is a drop-top version, the aluminum structure has been stiffened by 20 percent in comparison to the hard-top Z06. The Convertible can also be ordered with the Z07 Performance Package which adds Michelin Pilot Sport Cup tires, Brembo carbon-ceramic matrix brakes and adjustable aerodynamic components at the front and rear. While the Coupe and Convertible models are almost identical, the latter can be distinguished by the thick fabric electronic top that opens or closes in a couple of seconds at speeds up to 30 mph. The thick fabric top is offered in four colors and features a glass rear window and sound-absorbing padding. Because of the folding top, Chevrolet had to reposition the air intakes from the rear quarter panels on the coupe model to the underbody on the convertible model. At the heart of the 2015 Corvette Z06 Convertible is an all new LT4 6.2L supercharged V8 engine that puts out a whopping 625 hp and peak torque of 635 lb-ft. The supercharged engine is mated either with a standard 7-speed manual transmission featuring Active Rev Match or an all-new 8L90 8-speed automatic transmission with paddle shifters.
Just like the Coupe model. the Convertible features a range of track-oriented technologies to help it perform to the best of its abilities. These include Traction Control, Electronic Limited Slip Differential, Performance Traction Management and Launch Control. To enhance the performance, the Corvette also comes with a host of aerodynamic components such as a carbon-fiber hood, a front splitter and a rear spoiler. Customers can also opt for the carbon-fiber aero package or Z07 package.
