Subaru has unveiled the 2015 Subaru WRX STI at the 2014 North American International Auto Show a.k.a Detroit Motor Show. The WRX STI is Subaru’s flagship model and the 2015 iteration only gets better. To add a pinch of exclusivity to this model, Subaru will also offer a limited edition model called WRX STI Launch Edition featuring a unique WR Blue paint, gold BBS forged alloy wheels and unique interior trim. Only 1,000 such limited edition WRXs will be made. Powering the car is the legendary 2.5-liter turbocharged intercooled 4-cylinder BOXER engine that makes use of Dual Active Valve Control System (Dual AVCS) and produces 305 horsepower (SAE) at 6,000 rpm and 290 lb.-ft. of peak torque at 4,000 rpm. The engine is teamed with a revised 6-speed manual transmission. Working parallel with the engine and transmission is Subaru Intelligent Drive (SI-DRIVE) powertrain management system that features three drive modes: Intelligent, Sport and Sport Sharp. Some of the new features of the 2015 WRX STI include a new platform that offers a stiffer and more agile chassis, a new four-door sedan configuration, Active Torque Vectoring, Multi-Mode Driver Controlled Center Differential (DCCD) Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive, Multi-Mode Vehicle Dynamics Control, and a Brembo Performance Brake System with Super Sport ABS. The 2015 WRX STI uses an exclusive Multi-Mode Driver Controlled Center Differential (DCCD) version of Subaru Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive, and features three automatic modes. The new system is claimed to enhance the torque transfer performance.
Coming to the cabin now, the 2015 WRX STI is one inch longer than the previous model, meaning it is marginally roomier. Other improvements include 2 inch more leg room for the rear passengers, and an increased trunk capacity at 12 cu. ft. up from 11.3 cu. ft. In terms of features the 2015 WRX STI gets a new flat-bottom, leather-wrapped tilt/telescoping steering wheel, new Welcome Lighting, a new 3.5-in. central LCD screen for displaying important information, soft-touch materials across the dashboard and door trims, new multi-information central display with 4.3-in.
