Acura has unveiled the 2015 Acura TLX Prototype at the 2014 North American International Auto Show a.k.a Detroit Motor Show. The 2015 TLX Prototype gives a preview of the 2015 TLX performance luxury saloon that is scheduled to launch later this year at Acura dealerships across US. “The Acura TLX Prototype is a precursor of some amazing things we have in store for our Acura sedan customers,” said Mike Accavitti, senior vice president, American Honda Motor, Co., Inc. “As you would expect from an Acura, this completely new model will offer innovative technologies that break down the barriers between the driver and the machine to deliver a more intuitive, connected and personal driving experience.” Acura has followed a “Red Carpet Athlete” theme which focuses on a perfect mixture of luxury and performance. With the launch of TLX, Acura will expand its sedan lineup which already includes the ILX compact luxury sedan and the RLX luxury performance sedan. At the Detroit Motor Show, the all new TLX was presented in a Athletic Red Pearl exterior color. Being a sports sedan, the characteristic features of the TLX include taut surfaces, a low and wide stance, short front and rear overhangs, sculpted fender arches and character lines. Complimenting the dynamic design of car is a set of Acura’s signature Jewel Eye™ LED headlights at the front. The car runs of custom-designed five-spoke 20-inch alloy wheels wrapped in 265/35ZR20 low-profile tires. Another and probably the most interesting characteristic feature of the prototype is the tailor-made side mirrors designed on the lines of Jewel Eye LED headlights and feature a row of LED lights fused into its base.
Dimension wise the TLX Prototype is 3.8 inches shorter in overall length (190.2 inches) than the current TL, but it equips the same 109.3 inch wheelbase. As far as rest of the proportions are concerned, it sits between the smaller ILX and larger RLX sedans. The list of advanced technologies that will be available at the time of TLX’s launch is long and includes two-wheel and all-wheel drive configurations, two high-performance, fuel-efficient new engines, two new advanced transmissions, and the next generation Acura Super-Handling All Wheel Drive (SH-AWD) and Precision All-Wheel Steer (P-AWS). Powering the 2015 TLX will be an all new 2.4-liter 16-valve inline 4-cylinder engine that is significantly lighter than previous Acura engines. It is mated to an all-new 8-speed dual clutch transmission (DCT) with torque converter. For performance lovers there is a 3.5-liter SOHC V-6 that comes mated with a new 9-speed automatic transmission. The car also equips a range of safety features including Collision Mitigation Braking System (CMBS), Forward Collision Warning (FCW), Lane Departure Warning (LDW), Lane Keeping Assist System (LKAS), Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) with Low-Speed Follow and Blind Spot Indicator (BSI).
